Why we established this scheme

The Student and Community First Responders scheme (SCFR) is set up in memory of Douglas Gray Stephens, a keen First Aider both at work and at home. Because Douglas lived too near to Melbourn ambulance station, he was not able to become a Community Responder. We aim to give everyone with an interest in First Aid and aiding their community the opportunity to contribute to the scheme, irrespective of their location and experience.

Our Student and Community First Responder scheme is financially self-supporting through donations and fund-raising events.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides all necessary training and the loan of medical equipment. However the cost of the car and navigational equipment is met entirely by a variety of fundraising events.

All contributions are welcome and could help to save a life in your community.
